Sugaring

WHAT IS SUGARING?

Sugaring is a form of hair removal that is completely natural. And we love the sound of all natural! It has been practised for centuries in the Middle East, Northern Africa and Greece and now the rest of the world gets to try this gem of hair removal too. Unlike waxing, sugaring requires no wax or paper strips. The therapist will only use a paste of sugar, lemon juice and hot water. It is perfect if you have super sensitive skin because it is hypoallergenic. Sugaring also allows the hair to grow in slower and softer.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING SUGARING?

Your therapist will use her hands by smoothing the sugary paste onto the skin in the opposite direction of the hair growth. It will sit on the skin for a few seconds and the paste will cool and harden. Your therapist will just flick it off in the direction of hair growth to prevent any hair breakage.  The residue will easily be removed with water, so you will not leave with sticky, sugary skin.

IS SUGARING EFFECTIVE ON ALL PARTS OF THE BODY?

The sugaring technique can be used on the legs, arms, bikini area and even the underarms. Try to keep your hair above an inch before you go for your treatment, so it can be long enough to remove. The only time sugaring is not effective is on men’s facial hair because it is too coarse and thick.

IS SUGARING PAINFUL?

Everyone has different pain thresholds but it has been reported that sugaring is far less painful than waxing. It is not painless like shaving for instance, but there is hardly any discomfort after. The sugary paste only attaches to the hair, so it pulls the hair only and not the skin too. Sugaring is also applied at body temperature, so no hot wax!

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I DO SUGARING?

The key is to do it as often as possible. The more often you do it, the finer your hair will become and eventually become invisible. Women with dark or thick hair will have to visit their therapist more often than those with light or fine hair. Sugaring is definitely the new IT hair removal technique, so do a search on GoBeauty to find a spa close to you who offers sugaring.
